Polish president Lech Kaczynski dead in plane crash in Russia

Polish president Lech Kaczynski is dead due to a plane crash earlier Saturday. Kaczynski perished in the crash along with 95 others including Kaczynski's wife and some of the country's top military personnel. There were no reported survivors in the crash which happened due to the dense fog the plane encountered over Russia.Kaczynski, age 60, was on the flight headed to Russia for the 70th anniversary of the massacre of Polish prisoners of war in Katyn. During World War II an estimated 20,000 Polish officers were executed.Today's crash happened around 2:50 AM ET on the outskirts of Pechorsk. According to the Investigation Committe of the Russian prosecutor's office, the plane was trying to land at the airport in Smolensk, in heavy fog conditions. The plane likely hit some trees at the end of the runway according to the Polish Defense Ministry.With the news that the Polish President Lech Kaczynski has died in a plane crash, a list of others who perished in the crash has been released. Other names on the list include Aleksander Szczyglo, the head of the National Security Office; Jerzy Szmajdzinski, the deputy parliament speaker; Andrzej Kremer, the deputy foreign minister; and Gen. Franciszek Gagor, the army chief of staff, according to the party.

SBI PO Exam question papers

The written test for SBI PO Recruitment (2000 RB & 2500 PO) is to take place on April 18th 2010.This is a common test for both the positions, so all candidates irrespective of the applied position, will have the exam on the same date.We have analyzed the pattern, selection process & books of the SBI PO exam.

Process : The selection process is similar to other previous SBI PO recruitment & has the following phases – 1) Written Test (250 marks) 2) GD & Interview (50 marks)

Written Exam – A common written test with a duration of 3 hours, for both posts will be conducted for 250 marks (Objective –200 marks & Descriptive –50 marks). All candidates will take both tests on the same day itself. The Objective test has -

1) Test of English Language 2) Test of General Awareness, Marketing & Computers
3) Test of Data Analysis & Interpretation 4) Test of Reasoning (High Level)

The Descriptive test is for 1 hr & will be evaluated only for candidates who have scored high percent in each objective test & have overall 40%.The qualifying marks for this test 40% (20 marks) is also necessary to proceed to final phase.
GD & Interview : The candidates with high percentile in Written tests will be called for Group Discussion & Interview. Around 7500 candidates for PO & 6000 for PO(RB) can be expected to get a call for interview, as per SBI recruitment notice.Those who secure minimum 40% of the total 50 marks will be considered for Final selection.

South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon

South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon has received one of France's top art awards at a film festival in her home country.French Trade Minister Anne-Marie Idrac made Jeon a knight of the Order of Arts and Letters at the Pusan International Film Festival. The shortlist for the 2009 Man Booker prize brings together the early favourite, Hilary Mantel, with AS Byatt, Sarah Waters and two-time Booker-winning Nobel laureate JM Coetzee.

1.Hilary Mantel is shortlisted for Wolf Hall, a piece of historical fiction centring on Thomas Cromwell, who was the successor to Cardinal Wolsey as Henry VIII’s most trusted adviser as the king tries to divorce Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn.

2. The first author to win the Booker prize twice, JM Coetzee is in with a third chance with Summertime. This latest novel completes his trilogy of fictionalised memoir begun with Boyhood and Youth, detailing the story of a young English biographer who is writing a book about the late author John Coetzee. Coetzee won the Nobel prize for literature in 2003

3.Sarah Waters, twice shortlisted for the Booker and the Orange prize, is in the running again with her fifth novel, The Little Stranger, a ghost story set in post-war Warwickshire.

India's maiden moon mission Chandrayaan-I has detected evidence of water across the lunar surface, scientists announced today.Moon Mineralogy Mapper, a NASA instrument onboard Chandrayaan-I, detected wavelengths of reflected light that would indicate a chemical bond between hydrogen and oxygen in materials on the thin layer of upper soil.The Moon Mineralogy Mapper or M3 has confirmed existence of water on moon by analysing the data collected from Chandrayaan-I.The finding ends four-decade long speculation on whether there is water on moon.Scientists first claimed that water existed on moon about 40 years ago after they analysed rock samples brought to earth as souvenirs by Apollo astronauts.But they had doubts about the findings as the boxes in which the moon rocks were brought to earth had leaked contaminating the samples with air from the atmosphere.

Patrick Swayze dies at 57

Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into viewers’ hearts with “Dirty Dancing” and then broke them with “Ghost,” died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months. No other details were given.Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer.He had kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting “The Beast,” an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot. It drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran on the cable television station in 2009, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.Swayze said he opted not to use painkilling drugs while making “The Beast” because they would have taken the edge off his performance.
